Tuner4Strings

It vibrates when you’re in tune.

The tuner for guitar, bass, ukulele, violin and nine more string instruments. Play a string: it tells you whether to go up or down.

Coming soon to Google Play and the App Store

See how it tunes

Tuning is free, forever.

The tuner screen: A string too low, “UP”, −18 cents.
Choosing the instrument: thirteen string instruments.
The tuner screen: guitar in standard tuning, high E string, “IN TUNE”, 0 cents.

In action

Three steps, nothing to set up.

No welcome screen, no menu to get through: the app opens straight onto the tuner.

Video without speech. An A string, 18 cents flat, is tightened until IN TUNE; the strings form the Tuner4Strings logo, “It vibrates when you’re in tune.”; the app appears between the strings: “Play a string. Follow the word.”; guitar, bass, ukulele, violin, cello and banjo are tuned with their real notes; “13 instruments. 27 tunings. And yours.”; “Tuning is free, forever.”

  1. Pick your instrument

At the top of the screen: the instrument and its tuning.

  2. Play a string

It recognises the string on its own. You can also pick it with a tap.

  3. Follow the word

UP or DOWN, until IN TUNE. Then move on to the next string.

Example: the A string is 18 cents too low. The tuner shows UP; the string is tightened up to 110 Hz, and it shows IN TUNE.

You can tune without looking.

Three different vibrations: up, down, and done. They feel nothing alike, so there is nothing to memorise. Put the phone down and keep your eyes on the neck.

UP

grows stronger

DOWN

grows weaker

IN TUNE

two full pulses

The three patterns, to scale: length and strength of each pulse.
The tuner screen when it hears nothing: “I can’t hear you”, with advice to play a string or bring the phone closer.

It stays quiet when it doesn’t know.

Most tuners show a needle even when they hear nothing usable. Tuner4Strings says “I can’t hear you” or “signal too noisy”, and tells you what to do.

A needle that lies breaks strings.
